Twitter

 Twitter is tops for tweeting...

Twitter is one of the most popular social networking tools people connect to everyday. According to TNW (2010) there are more than "145 million registered users". This is a tremendous amount of tweets. In saying this, libraries could benefit from this networking tools by subscribing to Twitter for free.  It is very easy to sign up; the only requirement is a valid username and password.

By signing up to Twitter, libraries will be able to communicate to their patrons on a very informal, but effective manner. Libraries would be able to inform the community and their users about daily events, kids story time sessions, bookclub information, holiday programs for children, Pram Jams (baby rhyme sessions) and adult activities. Twitter would also benefit libraries by informing the community about new releases and popular books. With new releases, the community could partake in the discussion and also recommend their favourite books. Libraries could also inform the public of opening hours, closing hours or program times and dates.

Moreover, libraries would be able to follow other libraries and find out what they are doing in their libraries. This is worthwhile because libraries could  exchange information and be kept up-to-date with new technologies and applications.
